note: i'm playing him strictly from the movie and not the spin-off animated series to follow, but will be incorporating some of the movie script & deleted scenes to his characterisation! i'll detail more on that soon but for now just know that it's canon for the ghosts to possess doc harvey and make him dance in ways that are both demeaning and strangely fluid with his hips. i'm sorry to have to share this fact

following the death of his beloved wife, dr. james harvey left his conventional psychiatric career and began practicing parapsychology in attempt to make contact with her, as well as functioning as an afterlife therapist, aka "the ghost shrink" β working with spirits to help them discover their "unfinished business" and move on. after two years of traveling around the country with his daughter kat, taking on a variety of jobs (and garnering a reputation for being insane), james wound up moving to the haunted whipstaff manor in friendship, maine in attempt to work with the ghosts haunting it and help them through the process of crossing over.

π team-ups β mystery solving, adventure opportunities, roadtrips to explore various haunted locations or maybe folks coming to stay at whipstaff manor to do their own investigating?

π shipping β or ship-adjacent things of any flavour, i'm not picky! james is in the process of grieving his spouse, and i think the complications and deep dives of that could be really fun to explore. also down for AU pregnancy / familial shenanigans, let him be Mr. Dad and take care of his beloved wife (gender neutral!)
π fellow vintage folks β sobs in "i can't believe the 90's are considered vintage now" but this is just an indulgent wish of mine to toss james at any other 'oldschool' spooky gang for all the 80's, 90's, early 2000's halloween fun

fourthwalling: personally fine with it, his life is wild & weird anyway... something also worth mentioning is that the casper movie, with all its pop culture references and cameos, canonically takes place in the same universe as the ghostbusters movies, so if shenanigans come up relating to that then james may have some ~fourthwall knowledge of "the ghostbusters" existing, but i'm totally cool to work with that however you might prefer. the poltergeist movies are also canonically adjacent to casper, though that cameo got cut from the film and exists in the script. it'll probably never come up in my writing for him but i think it's nifty..

use of powers: all good! characters sensitive to The Supernatural in various forms may be able to sense a strong presence of The Paranormal about james, considering he's been studying & delving deep into parapsychology for the past two years and also lives with a household of literal ghosts... he's also been possessed by multiple ghosts, multiple times (i'm including script possessions in this) and at a certain canonpoint briefly died / became a ghost himself (and was consequently resurrected via a Questionable Machine) so those things could be on the table
warnings: james is from a kids' movie from the 90's so there's a goofy layering to most things, but he does come with a lot of Realistic Grief & Loss over his deceased spouse and an inability to let go of her, if that's something that anyone needs to avoid! all the themes of being literally and metaphorically haunted, lots of Death Things...
